42nd Annual Elk Basin Cross Country: Part of the 406XC Series @ Elk Basin
Jun 23 @ 8:30 am – Jun 24 @ 4:00 pm

June 23 & 24

406XC Montana Cross Country Race SeriesBMC’s World Famous Elk Basin Cross Country race will be returning for its 42nd year running and is still free for spectators. Rider athletes know to expect a challenging course consisting of miles of single track, rocks, sagebrush, hill climbs, descents, ascents, side hills, sand sections, rocky runs, root ways, timber limb dodging, a few natural jumps and everything in between that requires top-notch endurance for both the rider and the bike. Elk Basin outside of Belfry Montana is considered high desert Bad Lands terrain and is no walk in the park by any means. Many top competitors in the Pro classes can find their body or bike unable to finish and that is why fans and rider teams will see a “No Whimps Allowed” sign at the event entrance. The full course is approximately 20 miles to complete a single lap and course design changes each year to keep the event ride dynamic and ever-changing. Youth Classes, Women and Open C race Saturday; and although not as difficult a course, still challenges the kids and beginners and they are just as enjoyable to watch. A and B classes race Sunday on the big course.

Fans and riders typically make it a whole weekend and camp, with a Poker Run on the main course after Saturday’s races, yarn-telling around the evening campfires and the main Events starting Sunday morning. The schedule is below and times are tentative.

No Gate Fee for Spectators, Free Camping and Parking on Public BLM Land

Competitor Sign Up Online and Information

A Word Of Caution: We know how many of you competitors want to ride this event. If you have just started riding motorcycles, this is not a race for begginers. If you don’t know simple rules of racing such as “picking a line,” and flags, you could endanger yourself and some of the riders that have been racing for years. Getting in the way of someone jumping because you’ve moved into someone else’s line could end up in a disaster. Supercross requires knowledge and safety.

bmc-sponsor-square-Tractor-and-EquipmentPractice is Tuesday from 10AM-2PM

A Pro Purse of $13,500 is expected for this event! This year proves to be exciting once again, with a new track layout designed and built from the latest features from Pro Circuit courses.

Pro Rider “Dash for Cash” during halftime: $1,500 up for grabs this year

The Chassis Works in Billings is putting up the Cash for the Dash. During the Dash, the rider in first place at the end of each lap (1-5) wins the designated money for that lap:

  • Lap 1 Winner gets $100
  • Lap 2 Winner gets $200
  • Lap 3 Winner gets $300
  • Lap 4 Winner gets $400
  • Lap5 winner gets $500

If a single rider stays in first place for the entire 5-lap Dash, they take home the entire $1,500.

4-Hour Marathon Cross Country @ BMC Grounds
Oct 7 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

The BMC Four-Hour Cross Country Marathon is exactly what it sounds like … a non-stop four hour endurance race with rider teams of two, with each rider completing two laps before the rider change. The Four-hour marathon race currently takes advantage of a large portion of the 1,421 acre space using the Motocross Track, the Endurocross Track and miles of wild bad lands terrain to hold a challenging race for the pros and an appropriate version for youth riders. In addition to sage brush side-hilling, single tracks, deep coulees, winding uphill shots, wide sweepers, snaking-through-the-trees lines, and rocky rooty sections, this cross country course is a great ride. Competitors pull the trigger and spectators enjoy a family picnic style day, with wide a variety of viewing locations at an awesome Autumn BMC moto event.
